Ballet Palm Beach, the professional ballet company of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, tours to Lewis Auditorium in St. Augustine with a mixed bill, An Evening with Ballet Palm Beach, on Saturday, April 21st at 7:30 p.m.
The evening opens with Balanchine’s charming Who Cares? Set to music by George Gershwin, the ballet evokes the exuberance of New York City with romantic pas de deux, syncopated group numbers, and virtuosic solos.
Next on the bill is The List, by former Alvin Ailey dancer and acclaimed choreographer, Christopher Huggins. This short, albeit powerful tribute is set in 1940’s Germany amid the throes of the Holocaust. In Huggins’ words, it is a “haunting glimpse into the lives of a Jewish family of four — from their kitchen table to their end.”
Finally, Ballet Palm Beach rounds off the evening with Space Between Words and Saint-Saëns Suite. Space Between Words is an intricate, contemporary-styled piece by Floridian choreographer, Donna Murray. It is set to music by minimalist composer Arvo Pärt. Saint-Saëns Suite, a neoclassical work choreographed by Artistic Director Colleen Smith, aims to embody Saint-Saëns’ sparkling music while showcasing the versatility and strength of the company dancers.
This multi-work performance offers something for everyone: Balanchine charm (Who Cares); a heartrending tribute (The List), a reflective pas de deux (Space Between Words), and a dynamic ensemble (Saint-Saëns Suite). Ticket start at $19. Groups of 12 or more get 10% discount. Please call the Box Office: 800-297-8309 or visit https://balletpalmbeach.ticketleap.com
